Even though Virginia Crim Whitman (age 96) quietly entered her heavenly home on December 18, she left a huge impact on those around her. Virginia was born in Cleveland, Ohio to James William and Iona May (Gorby) Crim. She had two older brothers, Russ and Ralph Crim, who preceded her in death. The family moved to Toledo, where Virginia graduated from Libbey High School. She met her future husband, Paul, in a chemistry class at the University of Toledo. Even though he enlisted and served in World War II, she continued her studies and graduated. She worked as the head dietician at Flower Hospital for several years. When Paul returned from the war, they were married on June 21, 1946. They were married almost 66 years when Paul passed away in 2012. They were a good team, sharing the same values of faith and family. Virginia was active in sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. She taught junior church, vacation bible school, and adult Sunday school classes at BridgePoint Church (formerly First Baptist Church) in Temperance. In addition, she faithfully taught Good News Clubs in her basement and was a Bible Study Fellowship leader in Toledo for many years. Paul and Virginia were supporters of education, making a donation to the Temperance Whitman Center to bring Monroe County Community College to Bedford Township. They also supported the spiritual and physical health goals of the Francis Family YMCA, making the Virginia Whitman Aquatic Center a place for all to enjoy. Paul and Virginia had four children, a son who died three days after birth in May 1951 and then three children who survive, Mary Ann (Richard) Stark of Kalamazoo, Jon (Laurie) of Ann Arbor, and Lee (Cindi) Whitman of Nashville, TN. She has nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who loved her dearly. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law Caroline Frautschi and many nieces and nephews. All who knew her saw that she lived her faith daily. She lived and died as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman), where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 4, 2019. Interment will be private. The family thanks Bickford Cottage in Portage, MI for the love and care they gave Virginia in her last four years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BridgePoint Church building fund. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
